Climate
The climatic conditions of the Ukrainian Carpathians are very different. The main factor of such differentiation is sharp change of altitudes: from 150 m to 2061 m. The thermal and moisture regimes are closely connected with the height. The climate is continental, warm, with cyclone and anticyclone motions of the Atlantic air. The average temperature of the warmest month (July) at the foothills is from +18 to +20°ж, at the mountain zone - from +8 to +10°ж, of the coldest month January - from -3 to -9°ж.
The number of precipitation is from 500-800 mm in the foothills to 1600-2000 mm on the highest ranges. It is useful to know that about 80% of the total number of precipitation fall in summer. There are often heavy rains with thunderstorms. In summer on the mountain valleys two of three days are rainy ones. In general the unstable spring, cool summer, warm autumn and mild winter are typical for the Carpathians. There are some mountain climatic zones (by M. Andrianov with additions):
ч. Transcarpathian zone
of very warm and moderate damp climate.
II. Precarpathian zone
of warm and moderate damp climate.
III. Pre-mountain zone
of moderate damp climate.
IV. Lowland zon
e of moderate damp climate.
V. Average mountain zone
of cool damp climate.
VI. Average mountain zone
of moderate cool and very damp climate.
VII. Mountain zone
of cold and very damp climate.
The climate within zone is not the same. From the northern west to the southern east the climate's continentally growths. The climate of the south-western district of the Trancarpathian Region is totally different from the general climatic conditions. The annual rainfall is about 600 mm. Summer is very hot. Sometimes droughts occur.
The relief has a big influence on the climate differentiation. Every hollow, river valley, different slopes have their individual local microclimate.
